Local Electric Utility

Overview

An internal team at a local electric utility provider runs its own development group, building the applications they depend on to plan and manage work in the field. They did not need an outside vendor to build for them. They needed a working model of how enterprise web development is done on a modern stack, and a partner to keep them on course while they do it themselves.

The engagement pairs education with embedded work. Presentations cover enterprise web development, the modern stack we ship on, and the agentic coding workflow we run every day. When the team starts a new project, we map the tech route, architecture, and strategic plan before they write code, then review their work on a regular cadence. It is our AI and tech strategy consultation practice applied to an internal operations software team, with the client team doing the building.

The Challenge

Give an internal team at a utility provider a working model of enterprise web development they can run themselves: what a modern stack looks like, how agentic AI fits the daily workflow with a human reviewing every pull request, and a concrete architecture plan for each new project, without handing the work to an outside vendor.

The harder part is making it stick. Adopting coding agents such as Cursor or Claude Code changes how tickets are written, how pull requests are reviewed, and where engineering judgment gets applied. That takes a standing cadence of review and course correction, not a one-time presentation.

Education

Enterprise web development, taught as a process.

The first presentation broke enterprise web development down into something an internal team can own: what it entails, how we provide it as a firm, and how a team inside a large utility should implement it themselves. The follow-up session covers the modern stack in the same spirit: the specific tools and technologies we use, why we chose them, and what they look like in daily use. The goal is not a tool list. It is a team that understands why the stack is shaped the way it is, so they can make their own decisions inside it.

Agentic Workflow

Human-in-the-loop, from ticket to reviewed pull request.

The core of the modern stack curriculum is the agentic coding workflow we run every day. An issue is written in the tracker with enough context to act on. It is assigned to a coding agent such as Cursor or Claude Code. The agent does the work and opens a pull request. An engineer reviews it, requests changes where needed, and merges when it is right. Nothing lands without human sign-off. We teach the whole loop, including the parts that make it safe: how to scope a ticket an agent can execute, how to review agent output critically, and where a person stays in the chain.

Embedded Advisory

Architecture up front, review on a cadence.

For each new project the internal team takes on, we work with them to map the best tech route, the architecture, and the strategic plan before development starts, so the team begins building on a foundation that has already been pressure-tested. From there we meet on a regular cadence: code review against their active work, direct feedback, and course correction while it is still cheap. The team ships the software. We make sure it is pointed the right way.

The Stack We Teach

The tools we use in production and recommend in the engagement, from framework to agentic coding workflow. Nothing here was installed for the client; it is the working stack their team is adopting.
