Overview

A nonprofit founded in 1963 by artists to support artists. FCA needed a digital home that could carry the weight of six decades of grant history, an active calendar of benefit exhibitions, and a standards-based online store selling donated works of art, all editable by a small in-house team. Design direction came from our partners at Team; we brought their vision to life across a deep, content-rich site and have continued to extend it as new needs surface.

The Challenge

Build a CMS-driven experience for an organization with over 8,000 grant recipients on record, an ongoing ecommerce business, without losing the editorial polish, photographic detail, or accessibility a fine-art audience expects. Then keep evolving it: new layouts, new internal tooling, and new revenue features as the organization grows.

Prismic CMS at Scale

1,100+ pages, all editable by the FCA team.

A Prismic-driven content architecture covering every grant program, every recipient profile, every benefit exhibition, every news post, and every page of organizational history. Slice-based composition lets the team assemble new pages, like the 2026 Benefit Exhibition, without engineering involvement, while a disciplined schema keeps the site consistent across thousands of editorial entries.

Grants & Recipients

Six decades of grant history, made browsable.

In-depth profiles for annual Grants to Artists recipients alongside the year-round Emergency Grants program, with rich filtering by program, discipline, and year. The platform makes 60+ years of philanthropic history, over 8,000 grants, discoverable in seconds.

Custom Ecommerce

A standards-based store for donated works of art.

A bespoke ecommerce platform built around the realities of selling donated artwork: one-of-a-kind inventory, medium-based browsing (paintings, sculptures, photography, prints, posters, video), and a Stripe-backed checkout. Built for an art-buying audience that expects the same level of polish online that they get in the gallery.

Internal Tools

Admin tooling that runs the store, not just the site.

After launch, we layered in the tools the FCA team uses to run the business day-to-day: promo codes, shipping management, order workflows, and reporting. The site is no longer just a marketing presence, it is the operating system for an active arts retail program.

Visual Storytelling

Photography and motion that respect the art.

Image carousels, slideshows, and gallery layouts tuned for high-resolution photography, performant on mobile, accessible to screen readers, and faithful to the design vocabulary established with Team. The site is unapologetically visual without sacrificing speed or readability.

Ongoing Partnership

A platform that grows with the organization.

Since launching in 2021, we have continuously extended the platform, new page layouts (the 2026 Benefit Exhibition is the most recent), new admin features, new UI refinements, and new integrations as FCA's needs evolve. The codebase has aged into a living product, not a one-time deliverable.

A pragmatic 2021-vintage Node.js stack chosen for editorial flexibility, ecommerce reliability, and long-term maintainability, still in active service today.
